What is a Repository of Scientific Research Output?

According to the "Guía para la evaluación de repositorios institucionales de Investigación", it is a "set of services provided by universities or research centers to their community in order to compile, manage, disseminate and preserve their digital scientific output via an organized, open access and interoperable collection."

What is ABACUS?

It is the Repository of Scientific Research Output of Universidad Europea. It gathers together the results of scientific output in the form of digital documents and archives of the University.

The purpose of ABACUS is to compile, organize, manage, disseminate and preserve the output resulting from the research activity undertaken by members of Universidad Europea, thereby generating transferable knowledge and thus contributing to social development and progress.

How is ABACUS organized?

ABACUS is organized into communities and collections that are used to give the Repository a simple and user-friendly structure. Communities are the highest level in the content hierarchy and are made up of collections that contain the documents (items).

Who can consult ABACUS?

Anyone can visit and consult the Repository by logging in via the "Password authentication (visitors)" option. This login method enables users to sign up to receive notification of changes and new items in ABACUS. Use of digital documents is indicated in each login.

Who can deposit documents in ABACUS?

Researchers (both teaching and non-teaching) at Universidad Europea.

What should I do if I am a researcher at Universidad Europea and want to deposit documents (items) in ABACUS?

If you are a researcher at Universidad Europea you should simply click on My ABACUS and select LDAP authentication.

Once you have been identified, you will be able to start depositing documents via the "Start a Deposit" option on the left side menu.

What type of documents (items) can I deposit in ABACUS?

Which file formats can be deposited in ABACUS?

Any format can be used (text, image, etc.), although we recommend using Internet-compatible formats to ensure accessibility and preservation.

How long are documents (items) stored in ABACUS?

Deposited documents and archives are preserved for all time. They may be withdrawn from the Repository upon request by the author(s), or for legal infringement reasons.

Are the documents (items) I deposit given any kind of identifier?

All the documents (items) that form part of ABACUS are assigned a persistent URL that gives them a unique identity and can be used to refer to each document (item) in published citations and other communications. These persistent URLs are registered with the Handle System, which assign, control and resolve persistent identifiers for digital objects and other Internet resources. The Handle identifier is administered by the CNRI (Corporation for National Research Initiatives), which uses, fosters and promotes research for the public interest.

What legal conditions do I accept when I deposit my documents (items)?

When depositing a document you must accept the Deposit License. Under this license, the researcher accepts the conditions established for the deposit, distribution, reutilization and preservation of the item.

Can I give my documents (items) rights of access, use and protection to my documents with regard to possible improper uses?

You can assign a Creative Commons license to the deposited item in the following cases:

  • If it has not been published before.
  • If it has been published before but you still hold the exploitation rights.

If the deposited item has been published and you do not hold the exploitation rights, you should select the No Creative Commons license option

The default Creative Commons license for this Repository is Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (by-nc-nd), although you can choose and assign any other available Creative Commons license when self-archiving your item.

Can I amend a document (item) once it has been deposited in ABACUS?

You will not be able to amend documents (items) deposited in ABACUS. If you find a mistake, you should notify the administrator.
