Una bóveda celeste en el Auditorio Kresge

Abstract

La relación entre el espacio musical moderno y su origen en la naturaleza encuentra una clara manifestación en el auditorio Kresge proyectado y construido por Eero Saarinen. De una parte, este edificio condensa la experiencia de su arquitecto diseñando espacios musicales adquirida en las décadas anteriores a través de diversos proyectos tales como la Carpa para conciertos en Aspen, Colorado (1949) y anteriormente, en colaboración con su padre Eliel Saarinen, en el Kleinhans Music Hall de Buffalo (1940). Por otra, la radicalidad conceptual del auditorio Kresge obedece sin duda a la voluntad de expresar la idea original del espacio musical al identificar los elementos significativos del auditorio con un nuevo lenguaje, a través de la claridad de la construcción, de la estructura y de la forma. Un espacio caracterizado por la ligereza de su bóveda que hace desaparecer la presencia del techo y por su suave graderío exento que buscan desplazarnos a la naturaleza, a una ladera en el paisaje bajo la bóveda celeste donde la música resuena en nuestro imaginario.

The relationship between the modern musical space and its origin in nature finds a clear manifestation in the Kresge auditorium designed and built by Eero Saarinen. On the one hand, this building condenses the experience of this architect designing musical spaces acquired in previous decades through various projects such as the tent for concerts in Aspen, Colorado (1949) and, previously in collaboration with his father Eliel Saarinen, in the Kleinhans Music Hall of Buffalo (1940). On the other hand, the conceptual radicalism of the Kresge audience is undoubtedly due to the will to express the original idea of the musical space by identifying the significant elements of the audience with a new language, through the clarity of the construction, the structure and the shape. A musical space characterized by the lightness of its vault that makes the presence of the ceiling disappear and by a smooth sloping ground that seeks to move us to nature, to a hillside in the landscape under the celestial vault, where music resonates in our imagination.
